How to Select the Right Decorator
You’ve probably got a picture in your head of your wedding day! Something you’ve dreamed about for years.
The decorator is the vendor who will bring that image to life.
Choosing a memorable aesthetic for your wedding is a lot easier with a professional decorator there to help. Here are some helpful tips on how to choose a decorator to elevate your venue space!
For starters, jump on the internet and check out a few decorators’ work by searching them on Instagram or Google!
Do you like their previous design choices?
Are they experienced in creating spaces that match the aesthetic you’re looking for?
Can they customize their work for you, or do they stick to a certain look every time?
The Vision
When you meet with potential decorators, try to gauge if they “get” your vision. You’ll be spending a lot of time with them, so you want to make sure you get along and agree on key details.
Are they good at translating Pinterest boards or ideas into real, cohesive designs?
What are their thoughts on your venue’s layout and lighting?
Money Matters
As always, you need to know what you’re paying for. So what all is included in their services?
Full production packages include lighting, signs, arbors, and other rentals.
Speaking of rentals… ask if they have their own inventory of items or if they use a third party vendor
Do they handle ceremony setup, reception layout and table styling, backdrops and lighting, and tear down at the end of the night? You don’t want your friends and family stacking chairs after your send off! Do they have someone to coordinate set up at your venue or do you need to have someone there to assist?
Collaboration
Ensure your decorator will coordinate with your florist, venue staff and wedding planner!
The more they’re willing to collaborate with your other vendors, the better the finishing look will be (and less for you to worry about)!
Have they worked at your venue before? Will they do a site visit to plan around specific venue spaces?
The Contract
Get these key details in writing: setup/teardown schedule, delivery and pickup fees, itemized list of included decor, damage/loss policies for rentals, cancellation or refund policy, backup plan for key items
